14 teams for 2010

The NZRU board finally announced the 14-team Air NZ Cup and 12-team Heartland Championships formats would remain unchanged for 2010.

The status quo will only remain for one year, as decisions on changes for 2011 and beyond are signalled to be implemented as per earlier decisions on the 10-6-10 format.

Congratulations to the Wesley College 2009 World In Motion Scholarship winner - Charles Piutau.

Charles currently plays on the wing and was part of the successful NZ Secondary Schools squad in 2009.

SBHS Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to the Southland Boys High School 2009 World In Motion Scholarship winner - Te Arohatai Herbert Matiaha.

Te Arohatai enjoyed a successful rugby season with SBHS and Southland, being awarded the Southland U18 Player of the Year. He plays touch rugby and rugby league, and is Deputy House Captain of Grant House at SBHS.

CBHS Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to the Christchurch Boys High School 2009 World In Motion Scholarship winner - Brodie Retallick.

Brodie has had a successful rugby season with CBHS, being awarded the Senior Player of the Year, Tackler of the Year and Most Valuable Player - First XV. He supports his school as a student representative which includes involvement with the student council.

Sosene Anesi signs with Waratahs

Sosene has signed with the New South Wales Waratahs following an approach to Waratahs coach Chris Hickey by Sosene’s management team.

“This is a significant signing for us – to secure a New Zealand test player is pretty exciting for us as a team and indeed the whole organisation” states Hickey.

Dan Braid extends stay at Queensland

Queensland Reds' outlook at openside side flanker remains strong with Daniel Braid choosing to extend his stay at Ballymore by another year.

After injury forced a frustrating end to his first year at Queensland, the same injury that impeded his potential European contract, Dan Braid is excited to return to Australia for another season with the Reds.
